There is something special about opening a drawer filled with socks made by my own hands. Each pair carries a memory—of the yarn I chose, the pattern I tried, and the season of life in which I knitted them.

For an upcoming video, I’m gathering all the hand-knit socks currently in my wardrobe for a little show-and-tell. Some pairs are favourites that I reach for again and again. Others reveal what I was learning at the time, and a few may be ready for some mending and extra care.

I’ll also share the socks currently on my needles. My steady goal is twelve rows a day: a small, manageable rhythm that eventually becomes a finished pair. Finally, I’ll show the yarns waiting to be cast on and consider what my sock wardrobe might need next.

This is slow fashion in its simplest form—making useful things, wearing them well, and caring for them so they last. A handmade wardrobe doesn’t appear overnight. It grows one thoughtful stitch, one useful pair, and one good story at a time.

Do you knit socks? Tell me about the handmade pair you wear most often—or what you’re planning to cast on next.
