The last few days of the month always feel a little different.

The calendar is about to turn, and before I rush into filling the next page with plans and lists, I like to pause.
I make a cup of tea.
I open my journal.
And I ponder.
Not in a heavy or regretful way. Just quietly.
I think about the things I did this month. The blog posts I wrote. The stitches added to a sock. The yarn spun at my wheel. The conversations that filled my heart. The ordinary moments that somehow became extraordinary simply because I was paying attention.
Then I notice the things that didn’t happen.
The projects still waiting in their baskets.
The ideas scribbled in the margins of my journal.
The plans that were gently swept aside because life asked something different of me.
Years ago, I might have seen that list and thought, You should have done more.
These days, I ask a different question.
What is this month teaching me?
That question changes everything.
It reminds me that the purpose of reflection isn’t to keep score. It’s to learn. To notice. To make one small adjustment before setting sail into another month.
I’ve written before about “righting the ship,” and I think that’s exactly what these moments of pondering do. We don’t usually need to throw everything overboard and start again. More often, we simply need to place our hand on the helm and make a gentle turn back toward what matters most.
For me, that anchor is faith.
It is the quiet rhythm of morning coffee and Scripture.
It is fibre slipping through my fingers at the spinning wheel.
It is time with family, laughter with friends, and the simple gift of noticing the beauty already around me.
As August arrives, I find myself wondering what this beautiful season still has to offer.
There are tomatoes ripening in gardens, sweaters growing one stitch at a time, stories yet to be written, and quiet mornings waiting to be enjoyed before autumn begins whispering at the edges.
I’m looking forward—not because I have a perfect plan, but because I’ve taken the time to look back.
Reflection has a way of clearing the path ahead.
So today, I’ll ask you the same question I’m asking myself.
Will you pause and ponder with me?
What will you carry into August?
And what are you ready to gently set down?
Until next time,
