April Reflection + May Intention

🍵 A Gentle Welcome

Dear friend,

This past month has felt like a soft exhale.

After the fullness of Lent, the depth of Holy Week, and the joy of Easter morning, I’ve found myself slowing… perhaps more than I expected. The urgency has lifted, and in its place—something quieter.

Each morning, I’ve been lighting a candle, whisking my lavender matcha, and sitting in stillness with this simple truth:

Nothing is required of me right now.

And in that space, something beautiful is growing.

What I’ve Been Working On

April has been a month of steady hands and gentle creativity.

  • Spinning local wool from Rampart Farm
  • Exploring natural dyeing with avocado pits and onion skins
  • Knitting socks (always socks… you know me)
  • Dreaming into a larger sweater project

There’s something deeply grounding about working with fibre that comes from nearby fields… wool that has known our weather, our soil, our seasons.

It reminds me:

We are allowed to live locally—not just in geography, but in spirit.

🌎 The 100 Mile Life – A Real Reflection

I’ll be honest—this journey isn’t always smooth.

There are moments (like standing in the grocery store, searching for local potatoes in early spring) where the path feels… a little bumpy.

And yet—

I don’t rush.
I don’t force.
I don’t give up.

I adjust.

Sometimes that means choosing Canadian over hyper-local.
Sometimes it means waiting patiently for the next harvest.

The 100 Mile Life isn’t about perfection.

It’s about:

  • awareness
  • intention
  • and grace

The earth will produce—in due season.

🕯️ Faith & Slow Living

In ministry and in life, I’m noticing a common thread:

So many of us are carrying heaviness.

The world feels uncertain.
There is noise, urgency, pressure to react.

But our faith invites something different.

Not panic…
Not scarcity…
But trust.

A quieter way.
A rooted way.

Like the words from Micah 6:8:

Walk humbly. Act justly. Love mercy.

There is no rushing in that.

Only steady, faithful steps.

🌸 A Small Invitation for May

As we move into a new month, I’m not setting big goals.

Instead, I’m holding one gentle intention:

Stay close.

Close to:

  • home
  • rhythm
  • creativity
  • God

Maybe for you, that looks like:

  • cooking one meal from scratch
  • buying one item locally
  • sitting for 10 minutes in stillness
  • picking up a forgotten creative project

Small circles.

Deep roots.

📺 What’s Coming Next

In the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing:

  • A cozy “Day in the Life” video
  • More on the 100 Mile Life (including practical steps to begin)
  • A spinning + prayer series
  • A new gentle resource: The 100 Mile Life – A Gentle Start

This one feels special. Like something that’s been growing quietly for a while.

💌 Before You Go

Thank you for being here.

For reading.
For creating.
For choosing a slower, more rooted way—however that looks in your life.

I picture you with your own version of a cozy chair, a warm drink, and a moment to breathe.

And I’m right there with you.

With warmth,
Grannie Doll 🌿

🍂 Rocking Chair Reflections: What September Taught Me — September 27, 2025

🍂 Rocking Chair Reflections: What September Taught Me

Pull up a chair, pour yourself a cup of tea, and settle in with me. The needles are clicking softly in my hands. I think back over September. It has taught me more than I expected. The evenings are drawing in. The air has turned crisp. I find myself reflecting on what both DollCanCreate and this gentle GrandmaCore life have whispered into my days.

🌿 What DollCanCreate Reminded Me

  • Showing up matters. Some days, all I had to share was a sock half-knit. Occasionally, it was a quick glimpse of tomatoes from the farm store. But I learned again that it’s the rhythm of showing up, not the perfection of the finish, that connects us.
  • Local stories hold power. A skein of wool from down the road carries more than just flavor and texture. Apples from the orchard do as well. They carry a story. September proved that when I share those stories, others feel rooted too.
  • Different doors, same home. People came in through different channels, whether it was a blog post, a YouTube vlog, or a printable checklist. However, they all entered the same cozy home. That felt like a gift.

🧶 What GrandmaCore Whispered

  • Slow is a rebellion. Sitting in a rocking chair while the world rushes by isn’t laziness — it’s choosing presence. Each stitch is a small “no” to the frenzy and a gentle “yes” to peace.
  • Hospitality is holy. A warm welcome doesn’t always look like a grand dinner. Sometimes it’s sharing a cinnamon bun from the farm store, or simply offering listening ears and soft yarn to touch.
  • Faith knits it all together. The scriptures I carried this month reminded me of new mercies every morning. They spoke of scars healed in Christ and blessings of the harvest. This reminds me that GrandmaCore isn’t just about cozy living. It’s about rooted, faithful living.

✨ A Lesson for the Heart

If September had one message, it was this:
ordinary life is sacred. Slow living is not wasted living.

Every sock stitch, every apple pie, every whispered prayer is part of the greater pattern God is weaving. And sometimes the rocking chair is the holiest place of all.

📖 Scripture to Rock With

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
— Lamentations 3:22–23

🌸 A Cozy Blessing

As you step into October, may you carry September’s gentle lessons with you.
May you find warmth in small joys. Find rest in quiet moments. Trust in God’s faithfulness — stitch by stitch, day by day.

From my rocking chair to yours,
Grannie Doll 🧶💜

May wrap-up

Spinning Joy, One Thread at a Time

Hello Creative Friends,

The month of always feels like a fresh start. Gardens are blooming and days are lighter. There is renewed energy for our fibre work. May seemed to go by very quickly; very cool, lots of rain, but it bloomed in full colour.

Here’s a little peek into what happened in my studio this past month:

🧶 Fibre on My Wheel & Spindle

May was a season of mindful spinning. I’ve been working on:

  • Spinning naturally fawn and brown fibres for future knitting projects
  • Continuing my 100 Days of Spindle Spinning challenge — it’s amazing what just 10–15 minutes a day can create!

I encourage you — even a few minutes of spinning can bring such calm and joy.

🧵 On My Needles

Knitting was my quiet companion in the month of May:

  • A slow fashion shawl, using my handspun yarn
  • A simple pair of socks for everyday wear (finished May 31st, 2025, merino/nylon blend, hand dyed.
  • Exploring Knitting on a Budget — creative ways to knit more while spending less

I also shared a heartfelt blog post: “Crafting Calm & Grace.” It explores how fibre work can be a form of prayer and peace.

🌍 100 Mile Life: Local Fibre Focus

One of my passions in the merry month of May was deepening my 100 Mile Life journey:

  • Building a local fibre stash — supporting nearby farms
  • Cooking with local spring produce
  • I’ll be launching a new 100 Mile Life Tutorial Series — with a printable workbook soon in the shop!

Each step reminds me that local living and crafting can truly enrich our lives.

💌 Closing Thought

As May came to a close, summer beckoned. I’m reminded to slow down. I take time to savour the beauty around me. I cherish each creative moment.

What’s your plan for June? Tour de Fleece? More spinning, knitting, or crafting? Let’s enjoy these summer days together.

I hope your month was full of joy and fibre goodness and that June will be more of the same.

Until next time,

— Doll ✨
